Q1. Who is eligible to enroll in a specialization program?
All undergraduate students currently enrolled at the University may pursue Specialization Programs during their period of study.
Q2. Do I need to apply to enroll in a Specialization Program?
No application process is required for undergraduate students to enroll in a Specialization Program during their study period. Please follow the Required Course List (published on each department’s official website) to complete the relevant courses. For the latest information on the University’s existing Specialization Programs, please refer to the website of the Interdisciplinary Learning Planning Office: https://www.iaao.ntnu.edu.tw/?page_id=2081
Q3. Can I receive certification after completing the program?
Undergraduate students who have completed all required courses of a Specialization Program with passing grades will be issued a Certificate of Completion upon their graduation/departure from the University.
Q4. Can I enroll in a Specialization Program offered by my own department/degree program? How should I handle courses from other departments/degree programs that I wish to include?
- Specialization Programs are primarily designed by each department or degree program based on the latest academic and professional trends, aimed at enhancing the curriculum value. Students are eligible to enroll in programs planned by their own department/degree program and will receive a certificate upon completion.
- The issuance of the Certificate of Completion is strictly based on the Required Course List of each specific program; therefore, courses from other departments or degree programs cannot be used as substitutes.
Q5: How many Specialization Programs can I complete?
There is no limit to the number of Specialization Programs a student can pursue. Students will be issued certificates for all successfully completed programs upon their graduation/departure from the University.
Q6: I am currently enrolled in a Master’s program in my department. Can I apply for my undergraduate transcript and request a Certificate of Completion for a Specialization Program?
The Certificate of Completion for Specialization Programs is only issued to undergraduate students. If a program was established in an academic semester later than the student’s graduation semester, the student is ineligible for the certificate, even if they have completed all required courses with passing grades.
Q7. What is the difference between a “Specialization Program” and an “Interdisciplinary Program”?
Credit programs at National Taiwan Normal University are categorized into “Specialization Programs” and “Interdisciplinary Programs,” as described below:
Specialization Programs: Launched in the 114th academic year, these are “Department-led” programs primarily based on the curriculum structure of each teaching unit. They clearly outline the program’s focus, core competencies, and course planning for systematic learning. No application is required; students who complete the specified courses with passing grades will receive a certificate upon graduation.
Interdisciplinary Programs: These consist of “interdisciplinary” course combinations that integrate curricula across different colleges, departments, and degree programs to cultivate students’ interdisciplinary abilities. These programs involve two stages: “prior application” and “subsequent certification.” Upon completion, students must proactively apply for certification, which will be issued by the Office of Academic Affairs after review by the program’s establishing unit.
